The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Muhammad Tamim, confirmed, on Friday, that only 15% of Iraq’s debts have been paid during the past 10 years.

Tamim said, in an interview followed by Al-Maalouma, that “the draft general budget law for the year 2023 is valid for one year actually, and that the Iraqi Council of Ministers did not attach the schedules for the years 2024 and 2025 with the project,” adding: “Only 15% of Iraq’s debts were paid during the 10 years.” past”.

He added, “Defining the draft general budget law for three years is not a new step. This was stated in the Financial Management Law of 2019.”

Tamim continued, “The draft law will be for three years, but it is actually valid for this year,” noting that “the Iraqi Council of Ministers did not attach the schedules for the years 2024 and 2025 with the draft law.”

Tamim pointed out, “The deficit in the general budget, which amounted to 60 trillion dinars, will be during the year 2023 only.”

He pointed out that “the draft general budget law dealt with the issue of internal and external debts incurred by the Iraqi government, and said:” During the past 10 years, only 15% of the government’s debts were paid.

The Council of Ministers approved the draft general budget law for Iraq, whose size exceeded 199 trillion dinars, and sent it to Parliament.
