Ali al-Zubaidi, a member of the Coordination Framework, confirmed on Wednesday that al-Sudani will be out of the equation for a second term as Prime Minister, explaining that the Framework may work to grant him one of the ministerial portfolios in the next phase.
Al-Zubaidi told Al-Maalouma that “the political process will not move towards a majority government, especially since the Sudanese government will be devoid of content, after the way it proceeded previously, as it did not meet the coordination framework.”
He added that “there are many major disagreements that have occurred between the State of Law and Al-Sudani, in addition to other disagreements between the Prime Minister and many political blocs such as the Badr Bloc and Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq.”
He explained that “the coordination framework will nominate a figure for the position of Prime Minister from within it, and Al-Sudani will be out of the equation for a second term, and it is expected that he will be given a ministry, considering that he has parliamentary seats.”
He pointed out that “Al-Fayyad, Al-Fatlawi, and Al-Asadi joined the coordination framework, and what Al-Sudani had planned for a second term has gone up in smoke with Al-Maliki’s steadfastness and his refusal to allow Al-Sudani to assume a second term, a view shared by some political leaders, even if they did not say so publicly.”
