Member of Taghyeer Movement says it is probable that Barazani succeeds Talabani as President

Erbil (NINA) – Member of Kurdish Taghyeer (Change) Movement, Nariman Abdullah, said that it is more probable that President of Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barazani, will succeed President Jalal Talabani as President of Iraq.

In a statement to the press on Friday, Mar. 1, Abdullah said that the post of Iraq’s President is for the Kurds, they have the right to nominate their own.

He added that if Barazani becomes President of Iraq, he needs political agreement among Kurdish parties and understanding with the Federal Government in Baghdad.

At present, President Jalal Talabani is being admitted into a German hospital after suffering a stroke on 17 December 2012; he was rushed to the Medical City in Baghdad, then moved to a hospital in Germany under joint Iraqi medical team.

According to the President’s Doctor, Najmuldeen Kareem, the President’s health is progressing and he is recuperating; while reports say that Talabani might return to Baghdad soon, probably by the end of March.
