Member of Parliamentary Finance Committee MP Jamal Cougar, on Sunday (May 31, 2020), put forward a proposal that can reduce the salaries of employees by about 13 trillion dinars annually.

Cougar said in an interview with (Baghdad today), that “the Iraqi government will have to adopt many of the solutions available to address the current financial crisis created by the low price of oil globally, including loans,” noting that “the salaries of Iraqi state employees amount to 53 trillion dinars annually, but it can Reduce it to below 40 “.

He added that “this step can be achieved through real reforms and serious legislation in dealing with the file of multi-salaries, who are in the thousands, as well as aliens in various institutions in the ministries of the state, as well as opening directly to the file of corruption in the outlets and reviving revenues in many doors in the body of the government establishment.” .

Earlier, on Saturday (30 May 2020), Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi directed reforms to double salaries and pensions for detainees of Rafha and residents abroad.

The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received (Baghdad today), “Al-Kazemi chaired, today Saturday, the periodic meeting of the Financial Reform Committee, and the meeting discussed the repercussions of the financial crisis that the country is going through.”

The statement added that “Al-Kazemi directed to take a number of measures to address it, the most prominent of which is the reduction of salaries for the higher grades in state institutions.”

He continued, “The Prime Minister also directed to make the necessary reforms in accordance with the principle of achieving social justice, by addressing double salaries, pensions for detainees in Rafha, and a group of residents outside Iraq who are paid salaries.”
