“Markets under control” .. Baghdad reassures citizens days before Ramadan

Shafaq News/ The spokesman for the Ministry of Trade, Mohammed Hanoun, revealed on Friday that there is relative stability in food prices in all markets of the Iraqi governorates, days before the advent of the holy month of Ramadan .
Hanoun told Shafaq News Agency, “His ministry, in cooperation with the security agencies, carried out strict control operations to monitor prices and ensure market stability, through direct coordination with teams from the National Security and the Directorate of Combating Organized Crime in the Ministry of Interior.”
Hanoun added, “The ministry is continuing to implement its plans to control the markets and ensure price stability during the month of Ramadan,” indicating that “the supply situation in Iraq is safe and stable, and that citizens can shop normally without worry, with all basic food items available at reasonable prices.”
Hanoun pointed out that “the ministry worked with businessmen and traders to ensure that prices are not raised unjustifiably, which has led to the stability of the prices of basic food items so far,” calling on citizens “not to rush to the markets and to shop normally, as food items are available throughout the day .”
He added: “The Ministry of Commerce has opened several hypermarkets on the lands of the General Company for Foodstuff Trading, offering discounts of up to 20%, in addition to special support for families covered by social care.”
Hanoun concluded by pointing out that “the Ministry, in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, has provided payment facilities and price installments for social care beneficiaries with discounts of up to 35%, which enhances the ability of low-income families to secure their food needs at reasonable prices.”
