The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Sunday evening that maritime traffic in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz has been stable over the past few days.
The authority added, in a statement, that it had not detected or received any reports of confirmed disturbances affecting the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz during the past 72 hours.
However, the agency said that Iran continues to harass ships, in what it considered an attempt to demonstrate its control over the strait.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced on Saturday that it had targeted three oil tankers that were taking an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz, and three American ships in other areas, saying it was in response to the United States targeting three Iranian tankers.
These strikes were carried out at a time when Washington is seeking to “strangle” Iran economically by imposing a blockade on its ports, severe sanctions on it, and secondary sanctions on countries dealing with it, while maintaining the threat of military action.
