Shafaq News/ The 19th conference of the Islamic Dawa Party, on Saturday, re-elected the leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, as the party’s Secretary-General.
Al-Maliki has been the party’s secretary-general since 2006, when he assumed the Iraqi prime minister’s post, replacing Ibrahim al-Jaafari, who had split from the Dawa Party and formed a new political wing.
The Islamic Dawa Party is an Iraqi political party and one of the main Shiite parties. It was founded in 1957 and the religious authority Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (executed by Saddam’s regime) is one of its most prominent founders.
