MP Ahmed Al-Sharmani threatened on Wednesday to take legal action against the government and the Ministry of Finance due to the continued delay in submitting the general budget schedules to Parliament, warning of serious economic and political repercussions that threaten the country’s stability.

Al-Sharmani told Al-Maalouma News Agency, “There are urgent parliamentary efforts to file a lawsuit against the government and the Ministry of Finance for their failure to send the budget tables to Parliament, despite the passage of six months of the current year without its approval.”

He added, “The government is reluctant to submit the financial statements due to the large budget deficit, which is one of the largest financial deficits the country has faced in years.”

The MP criticized the government’s “silence and lack of clarity regarding its financial vision, at a time when the country needs economic stability and a fair distribution of wealth.”

It is noteworthy that the budget for the years (2023-2025) was legislated in a three-year formula for the first time in Iraq’s history, but the government has not yet sent its annual schedules, which sparked angry parliamentary and popular reactions.
