A number of contractors in Nineveh Governorate reported on Sunday that they are facing significant difficulties in disbursing checks issued by government departments through branches of the government-run Rashid Bank, particularly the 100 Khalid bin Al-Walid and 130 Al-Dawasa branches in central Mosul.
Contractors told Shafaq News Agency, “Banks are refusing to cash the checks, citing a lack of sufficient liquidity, or are receiving the amounts in small denominations (one thousand dinars) in some cases.” They pointed out that “bank branch employees are directing them to cash the checks through private banks in exchange for paying high commissions, which exacerbates their suffering.”
They noted that “the value of most bonds does not exceed 100 million dinars, yet contractors face obstacles that impact their financial obligations and hinder the continuation of their operations.” They called on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene to guarantee their rights and facilitate the disbursement of dues.
