, legal expert, Tariq Harb, confirmed on Saturday that it is not for Speaker of Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi to change the date of the emergency session called by Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to vote on his cabinet.
Harb said in an interview with “Mawazine News” that “in the regular sessions, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has the power to set the date for the session and to postpone it and change it, but the Speaker of the Council does not have this authority in the extraordinary session, the date of which is called for whoever calls the session who are authorized by the constitution.”
He added: “Since the invitation to the special session and its appointment on Monday came from the Prime Minister-designate, the speaker of the House of Representatives cannot change the date of the session unless the person who called and agreed to change the date.”
He noted, “In the event that the speaker of the assembly does not attend, one of his two deputies takes over the management of the special session.” Ended 29 / h
