Legal clarification regarding the cancellation of the decision to classify Hezbollah and the Houthis as terrorist organizationsLegal expert Abbas Al-Aqabi explained on Thursday the details of the decision to cancel the classification of the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Houthi Ansar Allah movement as terrorist organizations.

Al-Aqabi said in a press statement that “the decision must be corrected by the main body that issued it, if the error was technical, linguistic or an oversight, and then it should be republished in the Iraqi Gazette.”

He continued, “According to Article 8 of the Iraqi Gazette Law No. 78 of 1977, the correction of typographical errors that occur during publication is done in a statement issued by the entity that issued the original, and the correction is published in the Iraqi Gazette.”

Social media was abuzz following the inclusion of the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Houthi Ansar Allah movement in the committee for freezing terrorist funds affiliated with the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, after the decision was published in the official gazette, Al-Waqai’ Al-Iraqiya, earlier.

For its part, the Committee for Freezing Funds demanded that the names of “Lebanese Hezbollah” and “the Houthis” be removed from the list of terrorist organizations published in the Official Gazette.
