The leader of the State of Law coalition, Haider Al-Lami, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the disputes between the Sunni forces over the presidency of Parliament have reached unprecedented stages, adding that Al-Mashhadani has the right to investigate the vote-counting process that took place during the last voting session.
Al-Lami said, in an interview with the Maalouma Agency, that “the government is required to stop the movements of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives after the attack on other political forces,” noting that “we do not know why Al-Halbousi was not held accountable for the forgery case that was definitively proven by the Iraqi judiciary.”
He continued, “The government must launch a campaign to combat the degrading political content of some, in order to preserve the political process,” pointing out that “Sunni rifts have reached advanced stages as a result of mistrust between all parties to the equation.”
Al-Lami concluded his speech: “During the last session, the Sunni differences reached beatings, accusations, threats, and insults were initiated, and this contradicts the principles of parliamentary work.”
Political analyst Qasim Balshan confirmed in an interview with the Maalouma Agency that “the failure to resolve the issue of the presidency of Parliament revealed the dangerous stages to which the Sunni disputes had reached,” while he stressed that what happened in the voting session violated all the legal and constitutional articles of the Council.
