Member of the House of Representatives, Suhaila Al-Sultani, explained today, Sunday, that Al-Faw port is more important than Mubarak according to international standards, because the latter lacks the geographical location that Al-Faw enjoys, while she saw that Kuwait is not comparable to the smallest Iraqi governorate.

Al-Sultani said in a statement to the Maalouma Agency, “Comparing Mubarak Port to the large port of Al-Faw is a set of illusions that Kuwaitis believe,” noting that “The location of Al-Faw and the ease of transporting goods from it to Turkey distinguishes it from most ports in the region.”

She continued, “Unloading the goods at Mubarak Port by international companies is a first step, and the second is transporting them to FAO in order to go to Turkey and then Europe,” noting that “this process will cost companies time, money, and effort.”

Al-Sultani concluded her speech: “Anchoring ships in Al-Faw port means unloading goods directly onto trains and trucks to be sent to Europe through development, and this is what distinguished Al-Faw over Mubarak.”

It is noteworthy that Kuwait has contacted China in order to restart work on Mubarak Port, which has been suspended for ten years. Kuwait’s desire to revive the project coincides with Iraq’s launch of an ambitious plan to build a road and railway network worth $17 billion to stimulate trade in the region.
