Kirkuk International Airport spokesman Hardi al-Salihi announced on Friday that the airport does not operate any flights to Iranian airports.
Al-Salihi told Shafaq News Agency that “Kirkuk International Airport does not have any flights to Iranian airports, and no plane has taken off from the airport towards Iran.”
He added that the airport fully complies with the instructions and regulations issued by the Civil Aviation Authority and the relevant government agencies, while the movement of flights is carried out according to the officially approved schedules and routes.
He explained that the airport administration is constantly monitoring decisions and instructions related to air traffic and is working to implement them in accordance with official procedures, indicating that international flights operated from the airport are subject to the procedures and controls approved by the competent authorities.
Al-Salihi pointed out that the airport continues to organize flight traffic in accordance with official instructions, stressing that there are no scheduled or current flights between Kirkuk International Airport and Iranian airports.
Late on Thursday evening, the administration of Najaf International Airport decided to suspend all flights arriving from and departing to Iran, starting at 2:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2026, until further notice, based on official directives from the competent authorities.
The administration, in a circular seen by Shafaq News Agency, requested that airlines and relevant operating entities be informed not to take any action regarding the suspended flights, noting that it would inform them of any subsequent directives concerning the resumption of flights. The circular did not specify the reason for the decision or the entity that issued the directives.
This development comes amid sanctions announced by the US Treasury Department on September 8 against 36 entities linked to the Iranian aviation sector, including 27 airlines.
