Kamal Kharrazi, head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, confirmed on Sunday that the world is witnessing a radical transformation in the international system, with the decline of unipolar hegemony and the emergence of a multipolar world order in which regional powers play an increasingly influential role.
In a speech during his participation in the “Tehran Dialogue” forum, followed by Al-Maalomah Agency, Kharrazi said that “geopolitical changes and international developments require the countries of the region to enhance their cooperation to confront common challenges,” noting that “emerging countries such as China, India, Turkey, Russia, and Iran have begun to see themselves as having a role and responsibility in shaping the new world order.”
He criticized European positions, saying that “Europe has proven in recent years, especially after the nuclear agreement, its dependence on Washington’s policies and its inability to make independent decisions.” He added that this dependence “makes it difficult for Europe to play an effective role in the future international order.”
He held Israel responsible for influencing European decisions, believing that “the current stagnation in relations between Iran and Europe is due to the subordination of European policies to American pressure and Israeli influence within European decision-making structures.”
He stressed that “the unipolar system proposed during the era of former US President George Bush is today on the verge of collapse,” asserting that “the future is heading toward multipolarity, in which regional powers will forcefully impose their visions and interests on the international scene.”
