Hussein Ali Jassim, a member of the “Good News for Iraq” coalition, confirmed on Tuesday that the current government has become a caretaker government. He stressed the necessity for relevant authorities, including the judiciary, to monitor its actions in the absence of oversight bodies, most notably the Council of Representatives.
Jassim told the Information Agency, “The absence of the Council of Representatives’ oversight role, especially during this period, was exploited by previous prime ministers. This necessitates that judicial institutions closely monitor the government’s performance. The caretaker phase requires strict adherence to the laws and refraining from making decisions outside its jurisdiction.”
He added, “Judicial oversight is essential to ensure that the current phase is not exploited to pass decisions or projects that could negatively impact the political and economic situation.”
He indicated that “the coordination framework is closely monitoring the government’s performance and will demand accountability for any entity that exceeds its authority.”
