The Secretary-General of the Turkmen Islamic Union, Jassim Mohammed, revealed on Monday that the continued postponement of parliamentary sessions could affect the nominations for the cabinet. He explained that the delays might impact the chances of some nominees being approved during the voting sessions.
Mohammed told Al-Maalomah News Agency, “Every postponement of parliamentary sessions could create a delay in finalizing the cabinet nominees, and this could influence the positions taken on the candidates, whether by accepting and voting for them or abstaining from voting in rejection.”
He added, “The two candidates currently proposed for the Interior and Higher Education portfolios are Qasim Atto and Amer al-Khuza’i, but they are not the only options. We believe it is essential for the Prime Minister to have a role in selecting the nominees.”
He clarified that “there are three candidates under consideration, and if one name is not accepted or needs to be changed, another candidate can be considered, with the aim of reaching figures who are acceptable to the parliament.”
Mohammed noted that “there are no declared alliances against the candidates yet, but there may be other positions behind the scenes, especially in light of what emerged during the first round of voting,” stressing that finalizing the names remains contingent on political stances and agreements within the House of Representatives.
