Israeli media revealed on Wednesday that US President Donald Trump is sticking to four demands during the upcoming Washington-Tehran talks.
Israel Hayom quoted an informed source as saying that the talks scheduled to take place in Oman in a few days will see the US adhere to Trump’s four demands regarding Iran.
According to the newspaper, the four demands are (abandoning the nuclear program, halting the ballistic missile project, ending support and funding for proxies in the Middle East, and dealing appropriately with the demonstrators who participated in the recent protests).
In contrast, Iran is demanding that negotiations be limited to its nuclear program only, according to Western reports.
The newspaper indicated that “Trump’s goal is to garner domestic and international legitimacy before taking military action against Iran,” explaining that “the US president decided to negotiate with Tehran even though senior officials in his administration realize that it will not respond to the demands, and they believe that there is no real chance of reaching an agreement.”
The White House had announced that talks between the United States and Iran would take place this week, despite changes requested by Tehran regarding the venue and format.
Talks between the United States and Iran are expected to take place in Oman next Friday, after the Trump administration agreed to move them from Turkey.
It is worth noting that the Hebrew newspaper “Maariv” confirmed last Monday that Israeli military leaders held intensive talks in Washington with the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, within the framework of security coordination aimed at clarifying the repercussions of any possible attack on Iran, at a time when Trump is pressuring Tehran to comply with demands described as “strict”.
