Iraqi Parliament - Halting Kurdistan oil exports cost the treasury 13 trillion dinarsShafaq News/ The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives estimated, on Saturday, the financial losses resulting from the suspension of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region, for about two years.

The deputy head of the committee, Ikhlas al-Dulaimi, told Shafaq News Agency, “Stopping the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region has caused a huge loss to the Iraqi state treasury estimated at 13 trillion dinars.”

Al-Dulaimi added, “After the House of Representatives voted to amend Article 12 of the Federal Budget Law, the region’s oil exports will resume via the Turkish Ceyhan pipeline.”

The Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance Committee stressed the necessity of “the federal government’s commitment to the agreement on paying salaries to employees in the Kurdistan Region.”

Experts estimate that the halt in Kurdistan Region oil exports for 23 months has caused material damage to Iraq estimated at more than $15 billion (20 trillion dinars).

Since the Kurdistan Region’s oil exports stopped on 3/24/2023, the Federal Ministry of Oil has compensated for the region’s oil, amounting to 400,000 barrels, from the southern governorates, to maintain the OPEC oil export ceiling.
