The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed on Tuesday that the danger of financial and administrative corruption is no less serious than the danger of terrorism in the country, announcing that it has taken strict legal measures against thousands of officers, affiliates and employees involved in cases of illicit gain, while simultaneously confirming the stability of the security situation and the readiness of plans for the millions of visits.
This came during a press conference held by the Director of the Department of Relations and Media at the Ministry, Major General Miqdad Miri, at the Ministry building, which was attended by a correspondent from Shafaq News Agency.
Major General Miri said that “corruption is no less dangerous than terrorism,” revealing that the ministry has taken strict legal and punitive measures against 3,950 officers, affiliates and employees in various departments and divisions of the ministry, as a result of charges related to the exploitation of public office, bribery and administrative corruption.
Miri added that all those involved will be dismissed from service in the ranks of the Internal Security Forces and the security establishment, stressing that they will be immediately referred to the competent judicial courts to receive their just punishment in accordance with the applicable Iraqi law.
On the ground, the Director of Media at the Ministry of Interior reassured the Iraqi public that the security situation in the country is completely stable, stressing that the security institutions have not recorded any major terrorist or criminal crimes that concern the public, noting at the same time that the capital, Baghdad, topped the list of the best areas in terms of security.
Regarding the logistical arrangements for the coming days, Major General Miri confirmed that the Ministry of Interior’s preparations for the Arbaeen pilgrimage are fully completed, noting that all security and service activities and plans are fully secured, from the border crossings to the city centers and governorates involved in the pilgrimage.
