Iraqi electricity authority announces complete halt to Iranian gas gas suppliesShafaq News – Baghdad
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Tuesday that the supply of imported Iranian gas has completely stopped, causing the electrical system to lose between (4000 – 4500) megawatts, as a result of the shutdown of some generating units and limiting the loads of other units, which has affected the hours of supply.

The Ministry of Electricity’s media office stated in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency that “the Iranian side sent an official telegram informing the ministry of the complete cessation of gas pumping due to emergency reasons.”

The ministry spokesman explained that “the Ministry of Electricity resorted to using local alternative fuel in coordination with the Ministry of Oil to supply the production stations,” indicating that “production is still under control, and the stations are continuing to operate despite some of them being affected by the gas shortage.”

He added that “the ministry has prepared for the peak winter loads by carrying out maintenance, rehabilitation and expansion work at power generation stations,” noting that there is “continuous coordination with the Ministry of Oil to meet local needs until imported gas releases resume.”

Iraq imports 50 million cubic feet of energy from Iran, which constitutes two-thirds of Iran’s energy production, according to Iraqi government spokesman Bassem al-Awadi.

According to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, the country needs about 50,000 megawatts to meet its energy needs, especially in the summer, while it currently produces about 28 megawatts, according to official figures.
