The Central Bank of Iraq’s sales of foreign currency rose during June 2026 to $5.857 billion, compared to $5.092 billion in May, an increase of $765 million, representing a growth rate of 15%.

According to data seen by Shafaq News Agency, this increase was driven by an increase in the value of banks’ balances outside the foreign currency sale window to $5.538 billion in June, compared to $4.941 billion in May, an increase of $597 million, equivalent to 12.1%.

Cash sales also saw a significant increase to $319 million in June, compared to $151 million in May, an increase of $168 million, or more than 111%.

The data showed that the central bank continued to rely on the mechanism of boosting banks’ balances outside the foreign currency sale window as the main channel to meet the demand for dollars, while no sales were recorded through remittances, letters of credit or international settlements during the month.

Thus, the Central Bank’s total foreign currency sales during the first half of 2026 amounted to approximately $25.912 billion, distributed between $1.174 billion in cash sales and $24.738 billion to bolster banks’ balances outside the foreign currency sales window.
