Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced, on Tuesday, that it had received from China the new tanker, “Sumer”, with a tonnage of 31,000 tons, to be launched next September.
In a statement received by Shafaq News agency, the ministry quoted the general manager of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company, as confirming the ministry and the company’s keenness to build a new fleet for the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company by strengthening the company’s balance of oil tankers through new contracts with specialized international companies.
The Director General of the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company, Ali Qais, said, according to the statement, that the technical team and the committee in charge of the company received today, Tuesday, in China, the new tanker, “Sumer”, with a tonnage of 31,000 tons, after completing the final inspections.
Qais indicated that the tanker sailed from China towards the Iraqi ports, and it is hoped that it will be launched next September.
In 2020, the Iraqi Oil Tanker Company concluded a contract with a Norwegian company to build two tankers, each carrying 31,000 thousand tons, aiming to strengthen the company’s fleet in transporting crude oil and oil derivatives, along with tankers “Baghdad, Shatt al-Arab, Tigris and Euphrates.”
In addition, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani met in Ankara with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alp Arslan Bayraktar.
The two ministers discussed, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, a number of bilateral and regional issues of common concern, and also stressed the importance of the crude oil pipeline between Iraq and Turkey, and the resumption of crude oil flows, after completing the necessary rehabilitation and examination processes that require their implementation after the earthquake accident. They emphasized the promotion of prospects for joint cooperation in the fields of energy, oil and gas, electrical interconnection and renewable energy.
The joint Iraqi-Turkish economic committee, headed by the two ministers, decided to hold the committee’s nineteenth meeting in Baghdad, to set a date later.
