The Iraqi Integrity Commission announced on Sunday that it had obtained Jordan’s approval to repatriate funds illegally smuggled into the kingdom to the state treasury.
According to a statement from the commission, received by Shafaq News Agency, the funds were seized by the fugitive convict, the former director of the Iraqi Stock Exchange and Documents Commission, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Finance.
The Integrity Commission commended the fruitful cooperation efforts of the competent authorities in Jordan, which expressed their willingness to comply with the request for legal assistance sent by the Recovery Department of the Iraqi Integrity Commission through diplomatic channels, with the aim of seizing the movable and immovable assets of the convict pursuant to the decision of the Central Criminal Court, which includes the issuance of a judicial ruling of imprisonment for a period of (15) years pursuant to the provisions of Article (316) of the Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969 as amended, and pursuant to the decision of the Baghdad/Karkh Federal Court of Appeal, and obligating the convict to pay the amount of (332,176,290) three hundred and thirty-two million Iraqi dinars.
She explained that the follow-up operations resulted in filing a lawsuit in Jordanian courts, and the issuance of a final decision by the Amman Court of First Instance in favor of Iraq, giving the ruling issued by the Karada Court of First Instance the executive formula as a ruling issued by Jordanian courts.
The Commission concluded that the Jordanian authorities agreed to recover the seized funds and proceed with the procedures for returning the seized funds to Iraq by opening an executive file to enforce the seized funds in accordance with Jordanian laws.
