Iraq launches Kurdistan oil exports under direct supervision of SOMO

The State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) announced, on Thursday (October 2, 2025), the commencement of crude oil exports from the Kurdistan Region’s fields, in a move described as pivotal to strengthening the national wealth management unit.
The company indicated in a statement that “the first export operations were launched via the tanker ‘Vallesina,’ in accordance with approved mechanisms and within the framework of transparency adopted by the federal government to ensure the highest levels of financial and administrative oversight.”
SOMO confirmed that its specialized teams, in cooperation with North Oil Company personnel, directly supervised the loading stages at the Turkish port of Ceyhan, ensuring smooth procedures and the application of international technical standards.
The company added, “This step reflects the state’s commitment to unifying national efforts in managing the energy sector and strengthening Iraq’s position as a reliable source in global markets.”
