Iraq is not on the list.. 20 countries with the largest holdings of US bondsShafaq News/ The US Treasury Department announced on Sunday that Saudi Arabia is the only Arab country among the largest foreign holders of US bonds for the year 2024.

The Treasury said in its latest schedule for the year 2025, which Shafaq News Agency reviewed, that “Saudi Arabia was among the 20 largest countries owning US bonds for the year 2024,” indicating that “Saudi Arabia came in 17th place among the countries that own $137.5 billion in US bonds.”

She added, “Japan came in first place among the countries holding the largest amount of these bonds, with $1.059 trillion, followed by China in second place with $759 billion, the United Kingdom in third place with $722 billion, Luxembourg in fourth place with $424 billion, the Cayman Islands in fifth place with $419 billion, and Canada in sixth place with $379 billion.”

The Treasury indicated that “Iraq was not among the 20 holders of the largest US bonds, despite its presence in 2023 with a holding of $32.6 billion.”

The Treasury concluded that “the total bonds of the world’s countries during the past year amounted to 8 trillion and 513 billion dollars.”
