The Iraq Future Foundation for Economic Studies and Consultations announced on Saturday that the country imported more than 18,000 cars from China during the first half of this year.

According to a report issued by the institution, Chinese auto exports to the Middle East recorded significant growth during the first half of 2025, with the number of exported vehicles increasing by 65%, reaching more than 584,000 vehicles, compared to 353,000 vehicles during the same period in 2024.

The report added that the total value of these exports reached approximately $7.7 billion, up from $4.5 billion in the first half of 2024, reflecting China’s growing presence in regional markets and rising demand for Chinese vehicles.

Major importing countries

The report monitored the most prominent countries importing Chinese cars, with the United Arab Emirates topping the list, importing more than 221,000 Chinese cars, compared to 102,000 in the first half of 2024.

Saudi Arabia came in second place, importing more than 123,000 cars, compared to 96,000 cars during the same period.

Türkiye imported more than 91,000 cars, up from 70,000 in the first half of the previous year.

Iraq imported more than 18,000 Chinese cars, compared to 10,000 cars during the same period in 2024.

Jordan recorded the highest import growth rate, with imports jumping 962% to more than 23,000 vehicles, up from just 2,000 in the first half of 2024.

Electric cars are a growing presence.

Electric vehicles, which operate with fully electric motors, accounted for 10% of China’s total exports to Middle Eastern markets during the first half of this year. These exports were distributed as follows:

Globally, China exported more than 750,000 electric vehicles during the first half of 2025, while Belgium topped the list of global importers, importing more than 100,000 electric vehicles during the same period.

China’s automotive exports to the Middle East are estimated to exceed one million vehicles by the end of 2025, driven by growing demand and competitive pricing, particularly in the rapidly expanding electric vehicle segment in the region, according to the report.
