Iraq earns half a trillion dinars in revenue from date exports

The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Friday that Iraq’s revenues from date exports last year exceeded half a trillion dinars, while also revealing measures to confiscate foreign dates in local markets for being “smuggled.” Deputy Minister Mahdi Suhr al-Jubouri stated that ” Iraq continues to solidify its position as one of the world’s leading date exporters, based on the quality of its product and the diversity of its varieties, which number over 600.” He explained that “exports during 2024 exceeded 600,000 tons, generating revenues exceeding half a trillion dinars, supporting farmers and the national economy.”
Al-Jubouri clarified that “exports included dates in their raw form (such as Zahdi), in addition to high-yield commercial varieties (such as Medjool, Barhi, Maktoum, and Ashrasi),” noting that “export destinations included China, India, neighboring countries (Turkey and Syria), as well as European Union markets.”
