The second session of the Iraqi-Turkish Joint Economic and Trade Committee was held in Baghdad on Thursday, chaired by Iraqi Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi and his Turkish counterpart Omar Bolat, with the participation of representatives of the public and private sectors from both countries.

A statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Trade indicated that the meeting witnessed the signing of the minutes of the second session within the framework of the (JETCO) committee, in addition to a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in organizing international exhibitions, expanding cooperation in facilitating trade and investment exchange, customs and standard specifications, and the food, building materials, automobiles and spare parts sectors, in addition to enhancing the exchange of experiences between the private sector in the two countries.

During the signing of the minutes, Minister Al-Ghurairi stressed Iraq’s keenness to establish effective economic partnerships with Turkey and create an attractive investment environment, noting that the private sector represents a fundamental pillar for building the national economy.

These meetings aim to develop economic relations between the two countries and open new horizons for trade and investment cooperation.

Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi also inaugurated the Business 2B (B2B) trade delegations program, in the presence of his Turkish counterpart, Omar Bolat.

In a speech delivered on this occasion and reported by Shafaq News Agency, Al-Ghurairi emphasized the deep historical ties between Iraq and Turkey, and their continuous development with the support of the leadership in both countries. He added that Iraq is witnessing a fundamental economic transformation towards a market economy and openness to global investments.

He added that the true partnership between Iraq and Turkey should not be limited to trade exchange, but should extend to investment, technology transfer and development of productive sectors, calling on Turkish companies to increase their investment participation in the Iraqi market and expand joint projects.

The exhibition of Turkish exported products, held at the Baghdad International Fairgrounds from the 30th to the 1st of November, was opened in the presence of the two ministers, a number of officials, businessmen and representatives of participating companies.

The exhibition aims to strengthen trade and economic relations between Iraq and Turkey, and to provide an opportunity for Turkish companies to showcase their products in the Iraqi market, as well as to explore prospects for developing bilateral partnerships and expanding the volume of trade between the two countries.

In his speech during the opening, Minister Al-Ghurairi stressed that holding this exhibition represents an important step in strengthening economic relations between Baghdad and Ankara, noting the Iraqi government’s interest in supporting initiatives that contribute to revitalizing trade and attracting international companies to the Iraqi market, in line with the state’s directions towards enhancing economic openness and diversifying import sources.

For his part, Turkish Minister Omar Polat affirmed the desire of Turkish companies to expand their presence in the Iraqi market and offer a variety of products that meet the needs of the Iraqi consumer.

The exhibition witnessed wide participation from Turkish companies specializing in various sectors, amidst official, economic and media presence. The exhibition continues until November 1st, including live demonstrations and bilateral meetings between company representatives and businessmen, to discuss investment and trade cooperation opportunities and the development of future partnerships.
