On Monday, the governors of the Central Bank of Iraq, Nizar Nasser Hussein, and Iran, Abdul Nasser Hemmati, discussed the mechanism for settling financial dues between the two countries and regulating trade exchanges in accordance with international governance, transparency and compliance standards.

This came during a meeting that brought together the governors at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad, in the presence of the Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadegh, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement issued by the media office of the Central Bank of Iraq to Shafaq News Agency.

According to the statement, the two sides discussed all financial and monetary issues of common interest and ways to strengthen bilateral banking relations.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq affirmed the bank’s commitment to developing and implementing best supervisory and banking practices that ensure the stability of the local financial system and expanding regional and international coordination frameworks, in order to support and stabilize the national economy.

For its part, the Iranian side expressed its country’s aspiration to expand the horizons of cooperation and joint coordination during the next stage.

The governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdolnaser Hemmati, who is currently visiting Iraq, pledged yesterday, Sunday, during his meeting with Iranian economic activists in Baghdad, to follow up on the obstacles to recovering export revenues, problems related to customs tariffs, and the dues owed to Iranian contractors in Iraq.
