Iranian President: Energy must be rationed to prevent production and industry from shutting down

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday urged employees not to use their cars in order to conserve fuel.
Pezeshkian stated that energy conservation in the country is necessary to prevent production and industry from shutting down.
The Iranian economy entered a phase of sharp contraction during the first quarter of the current Iranian year, after recording a negative economic growth rate of 10.1%, an indication of the significant decline in economic activity following the outbreak of war with the United States of America.
This contraction comes at a time when the Iranian economy is facing rapidly rising inflation, a continuous decline in the value of the local currency, severe restrictions on foreign trade, and a worsening energy crisis.
The Iranian currency continued its decline during September, and the US dollar hit new record highs. At the same time, senior Iranian officials spoke of severe restrictions on exports and imports, as well as an energy deficit, factors that increase pressure on productive activity and foreign trade.
These developments come at a time when the second round of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports continues. This round began on July 14, and its continuation still puts additional pressure on trade routes, exports, imports, and Iran’s ability to access foreign markets.
