Iranian national security: Ukraine could become a legitimate target for Iran

The head of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Ebrahim Azizi, warned on Saturday that Ukraine could become a “legitimate target” for Iran if it is proven to be supporting Israel with drones.
Azizi said in a post on the “X” platform that providing military support to Israel with drones means “direct participation in the war,” adding that such intervention could make Ukrainian territory a legitimate target for Iran based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter relating to the right of self-defense.
These statements come amid escalating regional tensions related to the war in the Middle East, and increasing mutual accusations between international parties regarding military support in ongoing conflicts.
In contrast, Ukraine has accused Iran since the beginning of the Russian war on it of supplying Moscow with Shahed drones that were used to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Tehran has repeatedly denied supplying Russia with weapons for use in the war after it broke out in February 2022.
