Iranian Foreign Minister Takht Ravanchi’s political aide confirmed that messages are being exchanged between Iran and the United States through intermediary countries.
Asked about the possibility of sitting at the negotiating table with the US, Ravanchi said: “Messages between Iran and the US are transmitted through intermediary countries. Some countries are in contact with both sides. As you know, we were negotiating with Oman as a mediator, but we faced attacks first from Israel and then from the US. So, these attacks came in the middle of the negotiation process. It was a betrayal of diplomacy, an attack on it.”
He added, “Therefore, before starting a new round of negotiations with America, we need guarantees that such attacks will not be repeated. It is essential that diplomacy not be betrayed again. Israel and America surprised us with their attacks. We do not want to repeat the same game. America must convince us that it will not do so this time.”
He continued: “We cannot accept any dictates from America. Therefore, we cannot begin a real dialogue without guarantees that America will not impose its will. We are not seeking dialogue just for the sake of talking; it must have results that satisfy both parties. We take this matter very seriously. Any new negotiation process with America must be based on the principle of mutual benefit. And as I said, they should not surprise us with military attacks during the negotiations.”
