Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that his country would abide by the ceasefire agreement if America did the same.
Pezeshkian added during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek on Tuesday that Tehran would immediately reciprocate if the United States returned to its commitments under the interim agreement signed last June, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency.
The Iranian president stressed yesterday that “Tehran is still seeking a negotiated solution to its dispute with the United States,” following renewed clashes between the two countries.
He told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, that continuing the war is not in anyone’s interest, and that dialogue and cooperation are the way to resolve existing problems.
US President Donald Trump vowed on Monday to continue striking Iran hard, describing it as a “failed state”.
These statements came after the US Central Command launched strikes on two targets on Larak Island early yesterday morning, in order to “prevent the Iranian Revolutionary Guard from planting mines in the Strait of Hormuz.”
