Iran responds to Washington: Cooperation with Iraq is none of your business

The Iranian embassy in Baghdad responded to statements issued by the US State Department spokesman, which expressed Washington’s rejection of the signing of a security memorandum of understanding between Iran and Iraq, stressing that this position constitutes unacceptable interference in the affairs of two independent countries.
The embassy said in a statement received by Al-Maalouma Agency, that “the statements of the US State Department spokesman, which oppose the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and Iraq to enhance the security of the two countries and combat terrorism, represent an unjustified interference in the relations of two neighboring countries that enjoy full sovereignty.”
The statement added that “these statements clearly reflect the destabilizing American approach in the Middle East region and confirm Washington’s continued attempts to impose its vision on the policies of regional countries.”
The embassy stressed that “bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad falls within the framework of common interests and aims to enhance security and stability and combat terrorism, which threatens the security of the two countries and the region in general.”
