Iran refuses to engage in any direct negotiations with the United StatesShafaq News/ Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed on Monday his country’s readiness to conduct indirect negotiations with the United States, through the mediation of the Sultanate of Oman.

In statements reported by the Iranian Tasnim News Agency and reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, Araqchi said, “His country does not accept the proposal for direct negotiations with Washington for reasons previously explained,” adding, “We are prepared to conduct indirect negotiations mediated by the Sultanate of Oman.”

Araghchi pointed out that “the ball is now in the United States’ court to respond to Tehran’s proposal,” explaining that “his country is in no hurry to start talks . ”

Regarding the names circulating in the media regarding the individuals who might be negotiating, the Iranian minister explained that “all speculation is incorrect,” while stressing that “responsibility for any potential negotiations will fall within the jurisdiction of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under his direct supervision . ”

It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump revealed in previous statements that he had sent a letter to the Iranian Supreme Leader regarding reaching an agreement on the nuclear program .

Trump explained that Washington is considering two paths to resolving the crisis: military and diplomatic, but is prioritizing negotiations, indicating continued diplomatic efforts to resolve the nuclear dispute .

In 2015, Iran, Britain, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, and France reached a nuclear agreement that included the easing of sanctions on Tehran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program .

In May 2018, the United States withdrew from the agreement during President Trump’s first term and reimposed sanctions on Iran, prompting Tehran to gradually reduce its nuclear commitments and abandon restrictions on research and uranium enrichment.
