Shafaq News/ Unofficial exchange offices reported on Monday morning that the Iranian currency has declined significantly since the outbreak of the conflict with Israel at dawn on Friday.
Currency traders and exchange office owners reported that the Iranian rial (toman) lost approximately 12% of its value against the euro, while its decline against the dollar reached 13.6%.
According to information obtained by Shafaq News Agency, the dollar exchange rate against the toman has exceeded 95,500 to every 100 dollars.
Sky News Arabia reports from Tehran indicated that major platforms that typically display detailed exchange rate movements are “subject to censorship.”
Currency traders said the authorities intervened out of concern about further economic chaos. On the black market, one euro is now worth more than one million riyals.
The Iranian rial, already suffering from the effects of years of economic sanctions, is now facing additional pressure due to regional instability and a lack of confidence in a new nuclear agreement.
Attacks on oil facilities in Tehran could also affect Iran’s ability to maintain foreign currency flows from oil exports.
