Iran doubles the price of free-market gasoline starting TuesdayShafaq News – Tehran
Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani announced on Sunday evening that the price of gasoline in the third category (unsubsidized free market) will be raised to 10,000 tomans per liter, starting Tuesday morning.

In a press statement, Mohajerani said that the price was set after different figures were put forward during technical meetings, explaining that the government chose a price of 10,000 tomans (4.76 cents), in compliance with the pledge made by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to the citizens.

The price of the third tier was 5,000 tomans before this measure taken by the government in light of a severe crisis in Iran regarding car fuel.

Mohajerani confirmed that the prices of the first (fully subsidized) and second (partially subsidized) tiers will not change, as the price of 60 liters on the government card will remain at 1500 tomans per liter (0.71 cents), while the price of 50 liters will remain at 3000 tomans per liter (1.43 cents).

The government spokesperson added that the revenues generated from raising the price of the third tier of gasoline will be allocated to improving the living conditions of citizens.

Last December, Iran partially raised the price of subsidized gasoline for most users, in an attempt by the OPEC member state to control rising fuel demand.

Iran, one of the world’s largest oil producers, is facing a gasoline shortage that has worsened during the war due to damage to the energy sector and disruption of imports under the weight of the US naval blockade.
