Iran: Dollar surpasses 207,000 tomans on the free market

The price of the US dollar continued to rise in the Iranian free market on Sunday, exceeding the 207,000 toman mark, continuing the decline in the value of the Iranian rial.
According to data from the “Tejarat News” website, which specializes in monitoring exchange rates in the free market, the price of the dollar reached about 207,000 tomans, while it recorded a level of 207,300 tomans during today’s trading, and the price of the euro rose to about 239,830 tomans in the free market.
Exchange rate data circulating today confirms the continued pressure on the Iranian currency; as the exchange market data showed the dollar reaching about 2.077 million Iranian rials, an increase from yesterday’s level, with a trading range recorded during the last hours between about 2.034 and 2.084 million rials.
In an attempt to curb the rising exchange rate, the Iranian Central Bank announced last week that it had injected about $500 million in foreign currency into the banking network, but this did not prevent the dollar from rising again and recording new record levels.
The rise in the dollar’s price coincides with escalating US economic pressure on Iran and tightening of sanctions, at a time when Tehran has announced that the sanctions and naval blockade have significantly impacted foreign trade and the Iranian economy.
