The US dollar continued its rise against the local currency in the Iranian free market on Thursday, recording about 189,700 tomans per dollar.
The data showed that the dollar rose by about 400 tomans, or 0.21%, compared to the previous price, while the price of one euro reached 221,030 tomans, an increase of 0.76%, and one British pound reached 257,670 tomans, an increase of 0.57%.
After an understanding was reached between Tehran and Washington to end the war, the price of the dollar fell to about 153,000 tomans on June 16. However, the resumption of military tensions and the growing uncertainty about the future of negotiations between the two sides have brought the currency market back on an upward trajectory, coinciding with the escalation of regional tensions in recent days.
The dollar had exceeded the 191,000 toman mark in July, setting a record high, before later declining, while today’s data indicates that it remains at high levels close to that figure.
In the gold market, the price of a gram of 18-karat gold rose to about 19.85 million tomans, an increase of 0.92%, while the value of the new gold coin reached about 199.5 million tomans, an increase of 1.79%.
The rises in currency and gold prices reflect continued pressure on the Iranian market, with the local currency depreciating and demand increasing for assets that investors see as a hedge against inflation and economic instability.
