Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akrami Nia said on Wednesday that controlling the Strait of Hormuz would bring Iran economic returns equivalent to twice its oil revenues, stressing that this would enhance Tehran’s power in the field of foreign policy.
Akrami Nia added, in statements carried by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, that the western part of the Strait of Hormuz is under the control of the naval force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, while the eastern part is under the control of the naval forces of the Iranian army.
He explained that “the United States’ weapons in its regional bases have been destroyed,” stressing that “Iran will no longer allow these weapons to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The Iranian spokesman pointed out that “the enemy witnessed only a fraction of Iran’s capabilities, which he had not imagined,” noting that “the steadfastness of the people and the armed forces prevented the enemy from achieving any of its goals.”
Iran’s Fars News Agency reported earlier on Wednesday that more than 1,500 foreign ships were standing on both sides of the Strait of Hormuz waiting for permission from Iran to pass through.
