Iran and Oman affirmed on Tuesday their commitment to maintaining the security of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the smooth flow of navigation through it, while emphasizing respect for the sovereignty of both countries in all arrangements related to the strait.
The Omani News Agency reported that Muscat and Tehran, during joint official talks, stressed the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz safe and open to ship traffic, in order to ensure the stability of maritime navigation in the region.
This came during a visit by a high-level Iranian delegation to the Omani capital, Muscat, headed by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, where the delegation held a series of meetings with senior Omani officials.
According to what was announced after the talks, it was agreed to form a joint committee to regulate the management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and ensure the safe passage of ships, based on the rules of international law, while emphasizing that all arrangements for the strait must respect the sovereignty of both Iran and the Sultanate of Oman.
The talks addressed regional and international issues, including mediation efforts and coordination of positions aimed at reducing tensions and promoting stability in the region.
