A security source in Anbar province reported on Wednesday that US forces have tightened their security measures inside the Ain al-Assad military base, coinciding with the visit of former US President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia.
The source told Al-Maalouma Agency, “US forces imposed a tight security cordon around the Ain al-Assad base building in the al-Baghdadi area of Hit district, west of Anbar, coinciding with Trump’s arrival in Saudi Arabia.” He indicated that “warplanes and drones flew intensively over the base’s airspace, amid unconfirmed information indicating the imminent arrival of a high-ranking US official to the base, without revealing further details.”
He added that “eight giant US cargo planes landed inside the base amid tight security measures, without knowing the nature of their cargo, and they were escorted by warplanes that covered the skies of the western regions.”
He pointed out that “Ain al-Assad base has been witnessing unusual movement of military transport aircraft for days, in addition to the arrival of US military convoys from Baghdad and other provinces, amid ambiguity surrounding the motives for these intensive movements.”
