Today, Tuesday, a government source revealed the reasons for not holding the activity of the United States Agency for International Development in the capital, Baghdad, while confirming that the US ambassador to Iraq had invited the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani, but the latter did not attend.
The source told Al-Maalouma agency, “The US ambassador invited Al-Sudani to attend the activity of the US Agency for International Development inside a hotel in the capital, Baghdad,” stressing that the latter “did not respond to the invitation and did not attend the activity, which prompted the ambassador to postpone it for another time.”
He added, “Al-Sudani is very dissatisfied with the practices of the United States and the pressure through the dollar bill and the attempt to aggravate the economic situation in the country, which prompted him to reject the invitation presented to him by Washington’s ambassador to Iraq.”
The source confirmed, “The American activity was based on a high-level presence from the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan region, and the American embassy,” pointing out that “the meeting program included a speech by the Iraqi prime minister, but the latter’s failure to attend caused the American activity to be postponed.”
And the exchange rates of the dollar continued to rise against the dinar, with the closure of the main stock exchange in Baghdad, where 100 US dollars recorded about 171 thousand Iraqi dinars.
Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani confirmed that there are question marks about the application of the Federal Bank’s standards during a 3-month-old government, while they were absent for years in previous governments.
