Independent deputies form a new parliamentary alliance and tell Shafaq News about its goals

Shafaq News/ Independent deputies announced, on Sunday, the formation of a new parliamentary alliance called “Watan” to monitor the government’s work. The coalition includes 5 deputies, they are (Nazim Al-Shibli, Sajjad Salem, Yasser Iskandar, Tut, Haider Tariq Al-Shamkhi and Osama Al-Badri).
Representative Nazim Al-Shalabi said during a press conference held today, in Baghdad, with the participation of deputies of the new alliance, and was attended by the Shafaq News Agency correspondent, “We are a group of independent deputies who reject the logic of imposing wills in political action. We met on the second of October of this year, coinciding with the Eid. Patriotism of our beloved country out of our concern for the form and identity of the democratic path in Iraq and our refusal to exploit the votes of our voters within the auctions of trading positions and principles that the political process in Iraq is witnessing.
He added, “We decided to announce the establishment of a parliamentary coalition that includes a group of independent deputies within the Iraqi parliament, bearing the name of the (Parliamentary Homeland) coalition. Representative Yasser Iskandar and Tut were named head of the Watan Parliamentary Alliance, and Representative Haider Tariq Al-Shamkhi as Secretary-General of this coalition.”
He explained, “The formation of the coalition came to intensify the oversight role on the work of state institutions to strengthen mechanisms for monitoring government performance with regard to combating rampant corruption, supporting the file of basic services, developing important state sectors such as education, agriculture, industry, health, and investment, and strengthening the role of security forces of all kinds and formations in preserving the security and sovereignty of the country.” And strengthening the legislative role of the House of Representatives by adopting important draft laws that are in line with the requirements of the people of all segments, in a way that guarantees their freedoms, improves their service and living conditions, and achieves justice and social equality.
In response to a question by Shafaq News Agency reporter, Al-Shibli said, “The coalition will monitor the government’s work and strengthen the legislative role of the parliament,” noting that “the coalition and independent representatives did not participate in the current government.”
