Today, Monday, the Minister of Commerce, Atheer Al-Ghurairi, discussed with the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Elena Romanowski, files for developing economic and trade relations and the Ministry’s procedures within the food basket project.
The ministry stated, in a statement received by Al-Rabaa, that “Al-Ghurairi met in his office with the US ambassador to Iraq, Elena Romanowski, in the presence of undersecretaries and a number of general directors in the ministry’s formations.”
She added, “The visit came at the invitation of the Minister, and during it a number of files of mutual understanding and American support provided on the issue of food security for Iraq, which the Ministry is working on, and the development of economic and trade relations and memorandums of understanding signed with the American Grains Council in the areas of supplying American wheat and rice, were discussed.” “.
Al-Ghurairi stressed, during the meeting, that “the Iraqi government is working today, according to a government program and vision, and with specific timings, to secure food security for the country and through measures it took after giving the private sector a role in achieving this.”
He pointed out, “Iraq is seeking to open new horizons for joint cooperation with the American side in all fields and to bring viewpoints closer together on topics that serve common interests.”
For her part, US Ambassador Elena Romanowski stressed “the United States’ support for the Iraqi government’s measures to ensure food security to help families in need.”
She pointed out, “Working to continue exchanging views, listening to proposals and observations for possible support, and making decisions regarding them.”
The statement continued: “During the meeting, the senior staff reviewed the Ministry’s procedures to determine future visions in the signed memorandums of understanding and work to intensify efforts to facilitate trade exchange between the two countries.”
