The exchange rate of the US dollar against the Iranian currency rose on Saturday in the free market, reaching more than 11,000 million tomans per $100, amid continued pressure on the Iranian economy.
The price of $100 ranged between 10.3 million tomans during last week’s trading session.
The Iranian toman has lost a significant portion of its value in recent years due to US sanctions and declining oil exports.
The UN Security Council voted against a draft resolution to permanently lift sanctions on Iran.
The 15-member UN Security Council was due to vote on the draft resolution on Friday after Britain, France, and Germany launched a 30-day process on August 28 to reimpose UN sanctions, accusing Tehran of failing to comply with the 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers aimed at preventing it from developing a nuclear weapon.
