Amending the general budget law in Iraq usually aims to address economic challenges or meet emerging needs that were not included in the original budget and may include reallocating resources, increasing spending on certain sectors, or introducing changes to enhance transparency and efficiency.
The Iraqi government faces major economic challenges, especially since the disbursement of the two previous budgets was not completed due to a lack of liquidity, as well as the increase in internal debt, which added a new burden on it.
The Finance Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives revealed the details of the amendment to the budget law included on the agenda of next Tuesday’s session.
On the subject, the member of the parliamentary finance committee, Moeen Al-Kadhimi, said in an interview with / Al-Maalouma / agency, “The budget has already been voted on and does not need to be amended except for Articles 12 and 13 related to the costs of oil production and transportation in the Kurdistan Region and the resumption of exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.”
He added that “the amendments that will be made to the budget aim to settle the differences and achieve stability in the oil file, provided that the regional government is honest with the numbers related to the quantity of production and stops exporting without the knowledge of the central government.”
The House of Representatives had set next Tuesday as the date for holding the first session headed by Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani as the acting speaker after about a year of managing the sessions on an acting basis. The agenda included 5 paragraphs, the most important of which was amending the three-year budget.
