Next week, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Josh Harris will assume the position of ChargĂ© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Baghdad, succeeding Stephen Fagin, the embassy announced in a blog post on X.

Joshua Harris, who was appointed to the position on July 18, 2022, served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs of the U.S. Department of State until August 5, 2022.

According to the US State Department website, translated by Shafaq News Agency, Harris previously served as the policy director for the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and the Iraq Director at the National Security Council.

He was also responsible for Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia, and is a career member of the senior foreign service.

Harris served as Director for North African Affairs at the National Security Council from 2021 to 2022, where he coordinated the development and implementation of U.S. policy toward the Maghreb region.

While he served as Deputy Chief of Mission and ChargĂ© d’Affaires on a recurring basis at the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, and the Libyan External Office in Tunis from 2019 to 2021.

Previously, Josh Harris served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Director of the Office of Maghreb Affairs in the Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs.

His other overseas assignments included Ljubljana, Slovenia; Baghdad, Iraq; Tripoli, Libya; and Zagreb, Croatia.

Josh Harris, a graduate of Georgetown University’s Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service and the London School of Economics and Political Science, speaks Arabic, Croatian, French, Italian, Polish, and Slovenian.
