Abdullah Ahmed Al-Dulaimi, a member of the United Anbar Alliance, revealed on Sunday that the head of the Progress Alliance, Mohammed al-Halbousi, failed to convince the US Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad to mediate to lift the freeze imposed on his assets and the assets of two party leaders, which were frozen in Jordanian and Emirati banks.
Al-Dulaimi said in a statement to Al-Maalouma Agency, “Al-Halbousi tried to convince the US Chargé d’Affaires to intervene with the US Federal Bank to lift the freeze on his assets and the assets of other leaders in Jordanian and Emirati banks, but his efforts did not achieve any results.”
He added that “the leaders included in the decision acquired huge sums of money while holding leadership positions in the central and local governments, without revealing all the names affected by the sanctions.”
He pointed out that “Al-Halbousi owns, in an undisclosed manner, banks and exchange offices used in currency smuggling operations from Iraq to neighboring countries,” stressing that “his attempts to persuade the King of Jordan to release his frozen assets also failed, after they were included in the US sanctions decision.”
